Did you know that as an ELV Affiliate, child care centers can participate in the Healthy Options for Pre-schoolers Rainbow Snacks Program to experiment with fruit & vegetable snack ideas while earning incentive dollars to offset costs for any added prep time and purchasing?

Through the program, child care providers are able to add nutrition and variety to their snack menu while simultaneously earning reimbursements in return to offset the cost for serving the healthy options.

Ashley Conklin, Kitchen Manager at Family Learning Center has been participating in the program since December 2013. She says that through the program “The children are eating healthier foods, and are also being introduced to new foods. It is allowing healthy eating habits to form at an early age.”

In exchange for their willingness to add in these nutritious snack options, ELV will reimburse the child care center based on the items served and amount of children being served to offset costs of serving time and purchasing in an effort to encourage these healthy eating options. Ashley says, “The program provides funding that may not be available in other settings that is allowing us to offer healthier options. A few parents have even made comments about the fresher food items, and they love that their children are enjoying them.”
